It is important to us as a family business to take an active role in promoting fair working conditions in our supply chain. For this reason, the ARTEBENE Group joined the UN Global Compact initiative on corporate social responsibility in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and corruption prevention in 2017. To become a member of this initiative, we have undertaken to follow the 10 principles published by the United Nations. These principals are an integral part of our business relationships and of the ARTEBENE Purchasing Guidelines. As is customary in any good partnership, we agree in writing with our suppliers upon respecting the principles and we maintain our contacts by visiting them regularly at their sites.
1. Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
2. Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
3. Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
4. Businesses should eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
5. Businesses should work for the abolition of child labour.
6. Businesses should work to eliminate discrimination in employment and occupation.
7. Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
8. Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
9. Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
10. Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
In addition to the principles of the UN Global Compact, it is also a personal concern of ours that our products are produced ethically. Finally, as a female brand, we want to further strengthen the role of girls and women in our society. Therefore, fair working conditions and the safety of our female colleagues in India are a very special matter of the heart for us. A private bus shuttle, for example, ensures that all seamstresses get to work and back home safely. Reinforced by many years of cooperation and on-site visits, it is thus possible to maintain our social and ecological standards.
Near Delhi, our bags, which have previously been worked out by our design team down to the smallest detail, come to life. With the utmost care and loving craftsmanship, our esteemed colleagues sew, stitch and finish the products. This makes each piece unique - just as it should be for real favourite pieces.
In October 2022, Beate and Verena from the ARTEBENE Design Studio finally had the opportunity to travel to our production partner in India again after a long time and gather plenty of impressions.
Here, our long-standing partnership proved itself once again and helped them to a familiar reception. Besides the numerous inspirations for fabrics and our accessories, there was also time to visit the production on site.
The motifs and finishes chosen by the creative minds in our design studio find their way onto our products in a variety of ways. Whether embroidery, sewing or printing: In the manufacturing process, your favourite pieces become something very special by hand. Cotton velvet is a tried and tested material for our bags. A previously selected foil design is printed on the fabric and a pretty shiny motif adorns the product.
On-site inspection is an important step so that you can hold not only a beautiful but also a flawless product in your hands. With a trained eye, all finishes and every final product are therefore checked in detail.
At ARTEBENE we are a community and therefore we not only think about the lives of our employees, but also their families. Since this year, we have been supporting the Yadav family by covering the costs for school education of little Aaradhya. In India, schooling starts very early, so 4-year-old Aaradhya has been attending kindergarten since March 2022. Her father Rajeesh is part of the ARTEBENE partner production facility in India as a driver and is happy about the new opportunities for his little daughter. His employer and mentor Manu Gulati is also enthusiastic: "This is a very noble cause and in our society and religious teachings it is said the biggest help is the help to educate".
Seven months after Aaradhya's first day at kindergarten, our colleagues finally had the opportunity to meet the little girl in person. During the trip to the production facility in Delhi, Beate and Verena met Aaradhya with her family and had the opportunity to give her some presents for school. We look forward to the upcoming reports on her progress and especially to seeing her again on her next visit.
In the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development approved in 2015, the international community of states expresses its conviction that global challenges can only be solved together. Building on the 10 principles, the signatories of the Global Compact are called upon to promote the general goals of the United Nations, in particular the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
